Looking Back Upstream

March 27th, 2012 | Posted by Brianna in About | Inspiration | The Places We've Been

Exploring has always seemed to be an itch we could never quite scratch.  Whether hiking in a nearby state park or navigating bus systems an eight hour flight away, we are captivated by the world around us in all of its chaos and beauty.

Though no one has said it yet (thanks everyone), we can feel the question hanging in the air.  ”Do they really know what they’re getting themselves into?”  Yes!  Well… yes and no.  Not knowing is part of the journey, but we’re not naive and inexperienced enough to expect resorts and roses.  Traveling, both domestically and internationally, has been a top priority in our six years together.  Those experiences – the road trips and the economy hotels, the language barriers and the laundry-less weeks – are what have us thirsting for more.

The slideshow below offers a glimpse of 12 moments and places that fuel our ongoing curiosity.  Sweet re-gifted prize goes to the reader who can comment with the most correct locations where these photos were taken (without looking at the extended album here)!

No, we’ve never doubted that you know exactly what you are doing – as much or more so than anyone else out there! Jane and I couldn’t be more proud of you for having the courage to live passionately. When you find the Dutchman tell him that we will be joining him too someday.

    Love, Dad

    • As always, thank you two (and Rici) infinitely for the support. Without our friends and family, we undoubtedly would not find ourselves in so lucky of a position as to be able to undertake such an adventure. Visitors are always welcome! –Brianna and Ian

I’m sorry to say I have just finally looked at this info about your plans and I am so impressed with you two. I think it takes a lot of courage to do what you are doing, but oh what a time you are going to have. If I was 40 years younger I would want to go too. I will follow your adventures with much interest and pass them on to your Grandpa, too. Love, GP

    • Thanks a million for checking out our blog and leaving us a message! We have a lot left to figure out over the next several months, but it is exciting and we are having a great time doing it together. Can’t wait to see you and Grandpa again — we will be back for the holidays this year.

      Much love,
      Brianna and Ian
