Jungle Beach House in Zancudo, Costa Rica

Costa Rica Jungle HouseOur Costa Rican house in the jungle is really, really in the jungle. Not just that we drove through some jungle covered terrain to get here, but that it feels as if the house itself grew up out of the ground along with all of the trees and plants around it. From the windows we see only jungle in every direction; on the front porch we are greeted with lushness. Two large iguanas make their homes just feet away, and one will even climb the steps to the front door if lured with bananas. Monkeys swing by on a daily basis, and while there is an intense darkness at night, it is never even remotely quiet. From our property’s location completely shrouded in jungle greatness, the ocean can be heard roaring at all times. Having ambient noise provided by thundering waves instead of household appliances is calming and lovely.

Inside, the house is simple with white walls and dark, cherry colored doors, trim, and ceiling. There are two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a large open living space with kitchen. We have a nice big dining room table to work from and eat at, fans in all rooms, and convenient appliances like a washer, a television, and a blender. In addition to meeting all of our needs and being in a great location, our house boasts an excellent hostess who has made every effort to ensure we are taken care of. Margaret has welcomed us into her community and invited us to feel like family, and we are quite fortunate to be under her wing.
