Our place in Guanajuato was a perfect little place in a perfect little location. Essentially an open split-level studio, the upper level consisted of the bedroom and bathroom overlooking the living/working area and kitchen below. Highlights include:
- Speedy internet. After spending a month dealing with rationed satellite web access, it was a great relief to be able to stream videos and Skype.
- A beautiful blue-tiled shower piping in steaming solar-powered hot water. Actually, everything was covered in tile, which is both pretty to look at and great for traveling with dogs.
- A giant south-facing window overlooking the town below us and across the valley. Upon waking each morning from our places in bed we could see the line between light and shadow creeping down the mountainsides, and the orange-yellow glow of city lights sparkled as we climbed in at night.
- A hammock, accessible from the top of the stairs (and overlooking the previously described giant window with amazing view), suspended from the 15 foot ceiling.
- Our first ever experience using a moka pot. Makes very strong coffee.
- A lovely outside terrace, complete with an iron set of table and chairs and yet another hammock. The terrace was a great place to unplug, take in the sights and sounds of the town, and enjoy a cerveza or tequila.
- The hustle and bustle of the Centro was only a five minute walk away (though the walk back up the hill took us a little longer the first few days while we got used to the altitude).
The only folly we encountered was of our own doing when trying to find the place. Feeling pretty confident we knew where we were going in a difficult to navigate maze of a town, we managed to find ourselves at a dead-end after driving a hundred yards downhill on an eight foot wide street. This, of course, meant we had to reverse that entire distance up the hill while locals stopped and stared at the idiots.
If you are interested in the place, check out VistaFeliz.com, if you prefer, there is a listing onĀ airbnb.

Great place! What did you end up doing with the car? It says no parking in the AirBnb ad,
Have a safe trip!

Thanks for asking, Rich. Our hosts were able to find us an off-street parking spot. From what we understand, that isn’t usually part of the package, so we didn’t mention it in our post.
The place is obviously awesome but the most enjoyable part of the post was picturing the two of you backing up that narrow street while the locals muttered pinches gringos at a barely audible tone.
Haha, you’re totally right. Some of them didn’t even hide it. They just laughed out loud and called their families to come watch too.
