A Shrinking Inventory

August 7th, 2012 | Posted by Brianna in Oh
We did such a good job with our to-dos this weekend.  As we were hoping to, we got all of our things listed for sale on Craigslist by Sunday afternoon so that we would have four long weeks to make sure everything found a new home.  Now it’s Tuesday, and our bedroom and living room are already completely empty.  Fortunately for us, we do still have an old car jack, a filing cabinet, a jewelry cleaner, and a goldfish.

Yesterday, two sweet Duke students, having just completed their first day of Med School orientation, came by to pick up our couch, chair, and coffee table.  They didn’t even try to bargain with us, so we gave them some tarps to cover their new furniture with as they prepared to drive their rental flatbed through a big storm.  We urged them to take the tape too and were really quite flattered when they told us how excited they were to be taking home our couch, “because there is so much ugly stuff on Craigslist”, and apparently we had escaped that category.

Today, Ian sold our favorite chair to a lady who emailed him 21 times.  He was fully updated about her cat getting out, the Time Warner Cable guy coming over, how late she worked last night, and which U-haul she was renting her truck from before they ever even met.  This was quite a difference from the guy who bought our ladder on Sunday and might rather have died than talk to us.  Most people though are incredibly friendly, from the lovely lady who bought 34 books during a pretty slick side-of-the-road-in-the-rain exchange to the couple I sold my alarm clock to at the nearby Starbucks before a meeting last week.  Call it shady, but we are a retail machine right now.

As I drift off to bed on our spare bedroom mattress, which has naturally been moved for tonight from one practically empty room to another so that we can continue to sleep in our room, I can’t help but wonder what we’ll sell tomorrow.  I’m hoping it’s the house.  Fingers crossed it’s not the last mattress.

I got such a chuckle out of this. You are doing such a good job, maybe you would be interested in selling Grandpa’s 1958 Ford Tractor #901. He is selling all the attachments with it: Hydraulic Bucket, Bushhog, and Blade. All for just $4500.00 . Of course, they would have to come pick it up. We don’t deliver.
Good luck of selling your house.
    Love, Grandma

I forgot to mention, he probably would give you a commission for selling it for him.
