A Day in the Life: La Ceiba, HondurasJune 26th, 2013 | Posted by in A Day in the Life | Honduras | The Places We've Been
This is an installment in an ongoing post series detailing a typical day in one of our destinations. Not everything in this schedule might happen on any given day, but it should give you a good idea of our usual activities.
7:00 AM - We’ve been sleeping a bit later this month for no apparent reason. Makes no sense, seeing as how the early hours are the coolest part of the day.
7:15 AM – One of the best parts of the day is remembering how fresh and rich Honduran coffee is. (Side-note: We’ve essentially been drinking “cowboy coffee” this month, which just means we don’t have any filtration method in place other than an arm-centrifuge. It’s basically like a French press without the press. Using fine grounds, the results have been spectacular, and I’m not sure we’ll be switching back when a drop coffeemaker is available again.)
7:30 AM – Morning routines, news, educational and personal enrichment, etc. (Side Note: For anyone interesting in learning a foreign language online, Duolingo is worth checking out. It’s totally free, so it can’t hurt.)
8:30 AM – Commute five steps to the couch or kitchen table or bed to start work.
10:00 AM – Sunbasking lizards have finished their morning routine and exited the back porch. Our dogs are now free of their eternal duty to guard us from and bark at things for the day. Yoga for Brie.
11:30 AM – Gym time. Ian has found a lovely pile of broken cinder blocks.
12:15 PM – Lunch. Many many many days this month that has meant heading to a baleada joint to slam some two dollar lunch.
12:45 PM – Back to work. Sometimes sitting in a new spot, ya know, if we’re feeling cray.
3:00 PM – Choose one of the following:
- The rain sets in.
- Hit up the pool. Our B&B neighbors have been kind enough to let us use theirs, just steps from the beach.
- Throw sticks/coconuts/weird fruit things into the sea for Maya to swim after.
- Continue working.
6:30 PM – Sunset and dinner. This month we’ve been shuttling back and forth between curry and fajita/taco/baleada things.
7:00 PM – We’ve only been out after sundown a couple times this month (though La Ceiba is supposed to have a steaming nightlife scene). By this time we’re writing, reading, planning the next couple countries (we’re a bit behind, but what can ya do), watching World Cup qualifiers, or something else random.
9:30 PM – Weeds. Almost through the last season. I just want it to be over at this point.
